"When almost upon a secluded oasis in the midst of a barren landscape, passing travelers will meet the Guardian, who ensures that no trouble is caused to the land or people there."Photoshop CS + tablet.
It started as a quick sketch of a girl, but then I thought up a background and that story-blurb, and it wasn't so quick anymore.
I didn't use any specific reference, just studied some nature pictures and looked in the mirror a few times.
